Thursday, 31st July: A rather humid morning with heavy grey cloud and some periods of sunshine, in a moderate WSW breeze 3-4 and a Met Office yellow warning of thunderstorms and heavy downpours...although the rain didn't appear on our patch until mid-afternoon.
Elmer Rocks: There were literally just a few spots of rain early on, as the morning remained dry on our little patch, but it was all very quiet bird-wise. A flock of newly-returned Turnstones were feeding amongst the rocks on the beach, most still in their summer plumage, whilst three Sandwich Terns and two Oystercatchers went west. There were a small number of Mediterranean Gulls around - perhaps c.30 - and four Little Egrets on the beach, whilst in the woodland edge and hedgerows behind the beach were a Great Spotted Woodpecker, two Blackcaps and a Willow Warbler.
Also, a mention to the unknown person(s) whose artistry caught my eye with their stone stacks on the beach near Poole Place - very good.
