The species list at the start of 2024 stands at 194 and details those species which have been recorded strictly within the current boundaries of the Parish of Middleton-on-Sea (which includes Elmer and Ancton). *Sadly, the rarest of these, which was a Yellow-billed Cuckoo - an American species - was found recently dead at M-o-S on 14th December 1960. It was an adult female and was considered likely to have died from starvation (it feeds largely on caterpillars).
For the record, my own parish list currently stands at 185, though it should increase over time!
The colour codes here relate to the species' status regarding the most recent conservation concern assessment;
red = species of high conservation concern
amber = species of medium conservation concern, and
green = species of least conservation concern
